The primary role of the maintenance planner is to improve work force productivity and work quality by eliminating in advance potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time and labor. The planner/scheduler is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all maintenance work performed in the area to which he/she is assigned. He/she maintains liaison and coordination between the operations and maintenance organizations; maintains appropriate records and files to permit meaningful analysis and reporting of results or work done.

Education Qualifications
  • Minimum High School Education or GED
  • Formal training after High School preferred

Experience & Background

  • 1-3 years experience in a comparable manufacturing environment
  • Must have a strong craft background and strong equipment knowledge
  • Should have good organizational and planning skills and be a recognized leader 
  •  Should be a good communicator, have good people skills, and be highly motivated 
  • Reading and math skills are required along with the ability to read and interpret blueprints and produce field sketches 
  • Computer skills
  • Expert aptitude with the location CMMS and associated reporting software

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Proficient skills in job scope to anticipate problems and eliminate delays
  • Provide labor and cost estimates
  • Job Pack preparation:
  • Proficient utilization of the CMMS
  • Kitting – ensure all required parts and materials are kitted and available to the crafts prior to work execution
  • Produce and communicate a weekly schedule of planned work based on the ready backlog and production priorities
  • Reviews required PM’s, Work Requests, Follow-up Work Orders, and Backlog, matches up the necessary resources and equipment availability for work execution
  • Formal meetings with Asset Owners, Planner/Schedulers, Maintenance Supervision, and Engineering to agree the schedule reflects the most efficient use of the available resources and that it addresses the Equipment Reliability concerns of the area
  • Interaction with Maintenance Supervisor(s), crafts, Engineering, and Operations for discussions on planned work
  • Remain focused on the future – putting together detailed plans for future work
  • Perform detailed job scopes - anticipating problems and eliminating delays
  • Labor estimates 
  • Provide the right parts, tools, and equipment – all repair parts identified, ordered, on-hand, and verified before scheduling – arrangements are made for additional specialty tools and equipment
  • Provide the specifications, permits, hazards, work instructions and/or appropriate documentation to be included as part of the work package 
  • Maintain Asset History by ensuring all planned work orders are associated with the Asset worked on
  • Maintain an accurate Bill of Material at the Asset level
  • Job Kitting 
  • Maintain detailed equipment documentation for proper maintenance practices
  •  scheduling within the CMMS 
  • Coordinate planned equipment downtime
  • Coordinate the available resources with equipment availability with Ready Backlog work orders that match the equipment reliability maintenance strategy
  • Create preliminary weekly maintenance schedules based on work center capacity and priorities of the production area
  • Track the schedule completion including carry over work
  • Finalize the weekly locked in planned work maintenance schedule, communicate and distribute so the organization knows the schedule for the following week
