POSITION SUMMARY

Utilizes available manual and CNC machinery to build, maintain, and modify die cast dies, trim dies and machine components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with engineers to optimize cutter-paths to build components in the most accurate and efficient manner possible.
  • Checks documentation to verify accuracy and currency of prints/programs according to GRL, TRL, etc.
  • Performs the work of a craftsman in hi-spot bluing, fitting, timing and assembling the die cast, and other tooling.
  • Writes simple programs and use CAM software to write programs that are more complicated.
  • Performs the following operations as training permits:  rough mill, square, grind, hi-speed mill, drill, turn, EDM, polish, fit, blue and assemble die cast dies.
  • Maintains all equipment by performing routine maintenance.
  • Able to work weekends and overtime as required.
  • Meets all physical and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance, in accordance with scheduled work hours, and overtime (OT) as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management. 
  • Follows all prescribed safety regulations including the proper use of all required personal protective equipment.
  • Follows all Environmental Policy and Quality Policy guidelines.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition according to established Gibbs 7-S Guidelines.

Education: Two-year technical degree or four-year apprenticeship program.

Certifications: N/A

Experience: Minimum of 4 years on the job training in a related field such as tool and die, mold making, or CNC operation may be substituted for educational requirement.

Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematics: Ability to calculate figures such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning and Problem Solving: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Training: Ability to develop set-ups and operate specific CNC machine and metal removal machines.  Ability to use micrometers and precision measure devices.
